The gulf of Tonkin Incident is what sparked the United states to join the war efforts in Vietnam, however this wasn't the first time we saw this type of behavior coming from the United States. In fact this seemed to be a pretty common occurrence during the cold war. However it was for one big purpose, to stop the spread of communism.
